But first, let’s look at some today in history…

Crime: On November 18, 1996, Tony Silva, an expert and advocate for exotic birds, received a seven-year prison sentence for his involvement in an illicit parrot smuggling enterprise. His apprehension was the result of "Operation Renegade," a comprehensive three-year investigation conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service targeting bird smuggling activities. Silva's arrest and subsequent admission of guilt came as a shock to many individuals globally, including scientists, conservationists, and bird collectors, who had previously regarded him as a dedicated bird enthusiast. Despite his guilty plea, Silva has consistently asserted his innocence, claiming that his actions were motivated by a desire to preserve the species rather than by financial interests.

War: On November 18, 1916, a senior British officer Sir Douglas Haig stopped his army's attack near the Somme River in France, ending the long and deadly Battle of the Somme due to poor weather conditions. As the heavy rainfall had turned the battleground into a swamp, it almost became impossible to move the war equipment and soldiers to the strategic positions. Field Marshal Haig had initiated the Somme attack to help the Allies break through on the Western Front. The attack had started on the morning of July 1, 1916, when soldiers from 11 British divisions left their trenches near the Somme River and moved toward the German lines.

Religion: On November 18, 1302, Pope Boniface VIII issued a significant papal bull known as “Unam Sanctam.” This document was a profound declaration of the Catholic Church's theological and ecclesiastical authority. In it, Pope Boniface VIII asserted the existence of “One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church,” emphasizing the belief that outside of this singular Church, there is “neither salvation nor remission of sins.” This statement underscored the Church's exclusive role in the spiritual salvation of humanity,

Crime: On November 18, 1978, a tragic and shocking event unfolded in the remote jungles of Guyana, forever etching its place in history as the Jonestown massacre. Jim Jones was a charismatic yet deeply troubled leader of the Peoples Temple, a community that he had established in the 1950s. Over the years, Jones had built a devoted following, attracting people with his messages of social justice, racial equality, and communal living. However, beneath the surface of his seemingly progressive ideals lay a darker reality. Jones exercised complete control over his followers, demanding absolute loyalty and obedience. He isolated the community from the outside world, fostering an environment of fear and paranoia.
