Crime: On November 8, 1939, coinciding with the 16th anniversary of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch, an explosive device detonated shortly after Hitler concluded his speech. However, he emerged from the incident unscathed. The address was delivered to the Old Guard party members, individuals who had demonstrated unwavering loyalty to Hitler and his fascist party since its inception. Merely 12 minutes after Hitler and several prominent Nazi leaders departed the venue, a bomb, concealed within a pillar behind the speaker’s platform, detonated. The explosion resulted in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to 63 others.

War: On November 8, 1942, the first American World War II expeditionary force made its landing on the Gold Coast in Africa, which is present-day Ghana. This operation was part of a larger Allied campaign known as Operation Torch, aimed at gaining control of North Africa and establishing a foothold against the enemy.

Religion: On November 8, 1308, John Duns Scotus, a renowned and intellectually challenging Scottish theologian, passed away in Cologne, Germany. Scotus was a significant figure in medieval scholastic thought and is particularly noted for his complex and nuanced philosophical and theological ideas. Among his many contributions to theology, he is best known for being one of the first to articulate the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In 1854, Pope Pius IX officially established this idea as a core belief.
Mafia: On November 8, 2023, federal prosecutors in New York announced the arrest of 10 men who were connected to the Gambino Mafia family. Gambino captain Joseph “Joe Brooklyn” Lanni, ‘Danny’ and ‘Uncle Ciccio’ were among the ten men apprehended by the authorities. They were charged with being part of a criminal group involved in violent activities like extortion, assaults, arson, and crimes related to unions. The Gambinos are one of New York's five major Mafia groups. They were once led by the famous boss “John Gotti”, who died in a federal prison in Missouri in 2002.
