Crime: On October 30, 2023, a significant search operation unfolded in Colombia as more than 120 police officers and soldiers embarked on an extensive search mission to find the kidnapped father for Luis Diaz. The incident that triggered this massive search involved a group of armed men on motorcycles who brazenly kidnapped Diaz's parents at a gas station in their hometown of Barrancas, situated in the northern region of Colombia.
Luis Diaz is a prominent soccer player who plays for Liverpool in Britain's prestigious Premier League and is also considered as a star player of Columbian national soccer team. The soccer player’s mother was rescued soon after the search began however it took 12 days to recover his dad.
War: On October 30, 1918 the representatives of Great Britain and Ottoman Empire signed a treaty that stopped the Ottoman Empire from any further participation in the World War I. The meeting was held aboard a British ship Agamemnon, anchored in the port of Mudros on the Aegean island of Lemnos. Though the Ottoman Empire, considering its weak economic situation since 16th century stayed out of the war at first but it later joined the alliance with Germany in 1914 and its soldiers fought at various fronts. The armistice treaty signed in 1918 on this day, marked an end of that alliance.
Religion: On October 30, 2023, a somber and heartfelt gathering took place as more than 1,000 individuals came together to attend a Sunday vigil at a church in Lewiston, Maine. This event was organized to pay tribute to the 18 innocent lives tragically lost in what has been recorded as the most devastating mass shooting in the history of Maine. The church was filled with mourners, each person united in grief and solidarity, seeking comfort and solace in the company of others who shared their sorrow.
In addition to those present inside the church, hundreds more gathered outside, where they watched a livestream of the service.
Mafia: On October 30, 2018 American crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger, who rose to infamy as the head of the notorious Boston-area Winter Hill Gang was beaten to death by fellow inmates in a prison in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. He was attacked and left dead in his cell within twelve hours of being moved to that facility.
He was a dominant and feared figure in organized crime from the late 1960s through the mid-1990s. His criminal empire was involved in a wide range of illegal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion, and murder. He was 89 at the time of his death.
