Nearly 3,000 people were killed in these attacks, which forever altered global politics and security
War: On September 11, 1973, a military coup in Chile overthrew President Salvador Allende, leading to a dictatorship under General Augusto Pinochet. This coup was supported by the U.S., and the event led to years of brutal repression and thousands of deaths under Pinochet's regime.
Religion: On September 11, 1857, the Mountain Meadows Massacre occurred in Utah, where Mormon settlers attacked a wagon train of emigrants heading to California. Around 120 people were killed in this tragic event, which remains a dark chapter in Mormon and American history.
