….but first, some today in history👇

Crime: On November 25, 1960, a car carrying three courageous Dominican political dissidents, known as the Mirabal sisters—Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa—was stopped by members of the Dominican Republic’s notorious secret police, while they were on their way to visit a prison. Two of them were going to meet their husbands, who were being unjustly detained by the oppressive regime. The sisters were well-known for their outspoken opposition to the brutal dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, a regime characterized by its widespread human rights abuses. In a brutal and heinous act, the secret police mercilessly beat the Mirabal sisters and their driver to death. Then they put their bodies back in the car and pushed it over a cliff to make it look like an accident. Rafael Trujillo also met a tragic fate within a year when he got ambushed and killed while he was traveling.

War: On November 25, 1177, an important battle took place at Montgisard, located in the Levant between Ramla and Yibna. This clash was between the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Ayyubid Dynasty. Despite being only 16 years old and suffering from leprosy, Baldwin IV of Jerusalem courageously led his outnumbered Christian forces against Saladin's troops. This encounter turned out to be one of the most remarkable battles of the Crusades. The Muslim army was swiftly defeated and chased for twelve miles. Saladin managed to escape back to Cairo, arriving on December 8, with just a tenth of his original army.

Religion: On November 25, 1277, Giovanni Gaetano Orsini took the name Nicholas III to become the next pope after months of deliberations that concluded with the papal elections. He came from a powerful family, being the eldest son of a Roman nobleman, the role of his family’s influence to make him the next pope can’t be denied. He wasn’t the first pope of Orsini family. He kept this position for three years until his death. His most important papal order Exiit Qui Seminat was issued to relieve the tensions between the divisions and factions of Christianity.

War: On November 25, 1944, a German V2 rocket hit a crowded Woolworths store in London’s New Cross, causing chaos and devastation. The area looked like a battlefield after the blast. Despite receiving information about secret German weapons, and multiple V1 rocket attacks, the V2 rocket, being a superior and more destructive version of V1 caught the British off-guard. The blast killed 168 people, including 33 children, and injured 123 others. The scene was chaotic, with overturned vehicles, shattered glass, and smoke filling the air. It was one of the worst civilian losses in Britain during World War II.
