Crime: On October 21, 2014 Oscar Pistorius who is a double amputee and a South African Paralympic Champion, was convicted for five years. He was on trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. He was given a prison sentence of up to five years for causing someone's death without intentions of doing so. He was released on parole for good behavior in October 2015. However, in December 2015, South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal upgraded the charges to murder and found him guilty of murder. This time he was sentenced for 13 years.
After serving more than half of his term, in March 2023, he was released on parole. He will serve his remaining sentence in country’s community corrections system.
War: October 21, 1805 is known for an epic showdown in the open sea, in the west of Cape Trafalgar, Spain. The event is known as battle of Trafalgar. A grand fleet of 33 ships, made up of 18 French and 15 Spanish vessels, commanded by Admiral Pierre-Charles-Jean-Baptiste-Silvestre de Villeneuve squared off against a powerful British fleet of 27 ships, led by the renowned Admiral Horatio Nelson. This legendary encounter concluded with a dramatic victory of English navy.
War: On October 21, 1944 US troops got a breakthrough in Germany by capturing the city of Aachen. It was the first big German city to fall in the World War II. The Battle of Aachen, was one of the largest and most intense urban battles fought by U.S. forces. This significant confrontation occurred in the fall of 1944 and is often regarded as one of the toughest urban encounters of the entire war. Aachen, a city located near the borders of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, held strategic importance for both the Allied and German forces. The battle was part of the larger Allied campaign to breach the Siegfried Line and advance into Germany.
Religion: On October 21, 1555, Queen Mary I of England launched a series of hostile attacks against protestants in which more than 200 men, women, and children were killed. She did so after the martyrdom of bishops Nicholas Ridley and Hugh Latimer because their deaths had intensified Protestant zeal and being known in the history as “Bloody Mary” how she could have ignored that disturbance under her nose?
She got this unpleasant nickname for burning those priests and common people on stake; who openly supported anti-orthodox Christian beliefs during her reign.
